What will the course cover?
Foundation exercise. An introduction to the Small Circle Tai Chi of Master Lam Kam-Chuan.
Who is the course for?
Practising the traditional Chinese internal art of Tai Chi Ch'uan relaxes the body, clams the mind and lifts the spirit. Indispensable for new students of the art, this course introduces forst principles of Tai Chi through subject - specific preparatory exercises and the essential Tai Chi movements contained in the Small Circle form of Master Lam Kam Chuen. The content of the course, when practised regularly, is sufficient in its own right to benefit the whole person. it may be repeated as often as necessary to develop the skill required to practise independently learners over 50 may wish to consider Agewell courses in addition or as an alternative.

None
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
Practice a set of foundation exercises Demonstrate some understanding of their uses and benefits Practice the complete Small Circle form when working in a group. Many can achieve this independently and with confidence. Work towards agreed individual goals. Tai Chi is said to relax the body, calm the mind and lift the spirit. Learners report many and varied benefits which they attribute to regular practice. The most common of these are improved ability to cope with stress, and improved mobility and balance
How is the course organised?
This course offers a short introduction to Tai Chi through this compact form which contains the art's essential movements. it will be repeated each term so that learners can improve their practice and build their confidence by returning to it.
What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?
You will be expected to practise, however imperfectly, what you have already been taught so practice between classes is NECESSARY. A short daily practise is advised in preference to, for example, one long session once a week. You may be informed form time to time of events of interest to students of this art but there is no obligation to attend.
How will my progress be assessed?
Through observation and feedback against a set of learning outcomes. Self assessment is encouraged through reflection and the setting of personal targets.
What can I expect to go on to after this course?
You can continue to learn and progress within the same class. You can learn a longer Tai Chi form then progress to intermediate level; the tutor will advise you on this. You can practise the Small Circle form independently. You can learn related arts; the tutor will advise you on this.
Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
Clothing should ne comfortable and preferable loose. Shoes need to be flat with flexible soles and should not restrict ankle movement. Always bring drinking water. Books may be recommended but there is no required reading. You may also be informed about Tai Chi events but will be under no obligation to attend.
What support is available?
"Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Open Learning is available at Macbeth and WIN.
