What will the course cover?

This course is for anyone who wants to clear the clutter from their life, and make some cash at the same time. You will explore the various ways to sell items through the Internet, and how to prepare, list and dispatch them.

Who is the course for?

Anyone who wants to learn more about using the Internet to sell items online

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

Introduction to Computing' course or previous basic computer software knowledge such as using MS Windows. Students should have an awareness of basic computing functions and use of the Internet. Students should have an email account.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

Register your details on online sales sites, Register a Paypal Account, Link together a Paypal and ebay account, Prepare and list an article for sale, Write attractive and detailed item descriptions, Learn about and use item keywords to maximize search results, Photograph an item and use that photograph when listing the item

How is the course organised?

Group and individual instruction. Lectures, tasks, demonstrations, discussions, and lots of hands on practise. Over the course you will prepare and list an item for sale

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

To gain the maximum benefit, you should read recommended books and websites, and practice the topics covered during the class each week – the more you practice, the faster your skills will improve. Computer access is available at Study Support sessions at selected Adult Education centres or the libraries.

How will my progress be assessed?

Informal feedback but tasks will help you decide what else you need to learn or practise. The tutor may provide homework or specific tasks to assess your progress.There will be regular opportunities to review your progress through the class

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

If you are interested in starting a business and selling items through ebay, you may be interested in the ‘Start Your Own Business’ course. Other PC courses in specific software (Powerpoint, Excel), or you may want to look at gaining a computing qualification, such as ITQ or ECDL. Ask your tutor for more details about these courses.

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

A pen and notebook, a file folder to store handouts, and a USB key if you want to take your work home with you (your tutor can give you advice on purchasing USB keys). What support is available?

You may wish to get additional help offered through the Study Support Sessions at various centres. Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available in the Guide and the Student handbook, or from teaching or Reception staff.
