Adult Education Course Fees

Course Fees

You can pay by cash, credit or debit card (Mastercard/Visa/Switch/Delta) or a cheque made payable to London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, with your guarantee card details written on the back.

Please note where a refund is approved we are able to do this immediately for card payments but for fees paid by cash or cheque it will be processed within one week. Most fees include basic equipment but you may need to buy additional materials. Courses with a blue band are accredited and are aimed at those who would like to work towards a nationally recognised qualification. These courses include the examination fee unless otherwise stated in the course details. Courses leading to a qualification will require an interview before you can enrol.

It may be possible to pay course fees by regular installments throughout your course, instead of paying the full amount at the start. Please ask about installment plans when you enrol.

There are three fees for most courses:

Full fee for residents of the UK or other EU countries. This is the standard course fee.
Concessionary fee for UK residents in receipt of means tested benefits.
Non EU fee for those who have not lived within the EU for at least three years.

If only one fee is shown against a course, there are no concessions, and all students must pay this fee.

Concessions

Concession fees are available for those receiving certain forms of benefit. You will need to bring proof of your eligibility for fee concessions when you enrol. Evidence will be required in the form of an official letter dated within the last three months showing entitlement to benefit. If you do not have the right proof you will not be able to enrol, so if in doubt, please phone 0845 839 7912.

Concession fees are available to people who are in receipt of any of the following:

If you are entitled to a concessionary fee and join any accredited course, you will receive a £20 discount for every additional accredited course you join. To help pay for course fees and materials, it may be possible to apply for the Learner Support Fund.

Please Note

There are now fees for ESOL classes and there is no automatic concession for people aged 60+. There are still no course fees for UK or EU residents attending literacy or numeracy courses or for those aged between 16 and 18 years, although you may have to pay exam and materials fees. There are now fees for GCSE courses.

Invoicing your employer

We can invoice your employer for course fees. You must bring written proof that your employer agrees to pay and an additional charge of £25 will be made.

Refunds

A full or partial refund of your course fee will only be made when:

1. We close, merge or  re-schedule your course and you cannot get to the alternative.
3. There is a medical reason supported by a certificate or doctor’s letter.

An administrative charge of £10 will be made for this refund.

We do not provide refunds where individual sessions have to be cancelled, but will make every effort to offer an alternative session.

For refunds within the above categories:

If the admin manager approves your refund it will be processed and a cheque sent to you.

If you paid by debit/credit card, we are able to give you a refund directly onto the card you originally used.

To apply for a refund, please complete a refund form, available at any centre or from the downloads section.

Fees are correct at time of going to press. In exceptional circumstances however we may need to update the amounts to be charged. You should check that you have the correct fee before enrolling.
Please note: The criteria for concessionary fee eligibility may change after publication.

Class information

Our minimum class size ranges from 8 to 12 depending on the type of class and health and safety requirements. We have planned some courses allowing for lower enrolments but the fees for these courses are higher to reflect this.

If a class doesn’t enrol to a minimum agreed level, it may in some instances be possible to keep the class running if all the students agree to pay an additional amount. Alternatively, it may be possible to reduce the duration of each class, or the length of the course. This will be discussed with your tutor.
