Course Information Sheet

AMICI Dance Dynamics 3 PE Term 1   (Interview required)

What will the course cover?

This is a Pre-entry course that focuses on developing learners’ personal and social skills to enhance learning and life. Amici Dance Dynamics will introduce learners to movement and dance. They will be encouraged to develop creative relationships with each other and with tutors. They will develop skills in taking turns, making choices, performing for the group and being part of an audience. They will extend their movement range and learn to relax at the end of class.

Who is the course for?

• Learners who enjoy dance, movement and music. • Learners who may need 1:1 support and/or find it challenging to engage in group activities. • Learners who are familiar with Dance Dynamics and wish to learn how to support fellow students. • Learners who are familiar with Dance Dynamics and wish to develop their own choreography and performance skills. (The 4.30 class (AMICI1) is particularly suitable for those who would benefit from being in a smaller group)

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

No previous experience necessary

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

Move in a variety of ways, respond sensitively to different kinds of music: being aware of rhythm, pace, mood etc. Interact with others, take turns, make choices, listen and become part of a group. Make progress according to your own specific goals, e.g. supporting fellow students in dance and movement activities, developing performance and choreography skills, understand AMICI methods and principles.

How is the course organised?

Learners will have an interview before joining the class. Each session will include whole group work, individual work and pair/small group work. Tutors encourage independence and give support to each individual learner as appropriate. Support workers/parents join in the class. Props such as fabric, fans and ribbons are used to encourage creativity and to enable students to make shapes and link with each other.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Learners will be able to use their dance and movement skills at home. Support workers may like to use techniques learnt in the class with learners at home. Teachers and carers may like to use the techniques in their own work settings.

How will my progress be assessed?

Your tutor will assess your starting point and develop aims and activities particularly suited to you. Your progress will be regularly recorded and you will be given verbal feedback as you develop your skills. You will be assessed by your tutor and LSA against the course and your own personal goals. Evidence will be taken throughout the course including photo’s and video’s. Learners will have the opportunity to evaluate their own work and that of the other learners.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

There are opportunities to attend Amici Dance Theatre Company open workshops and other events. Learners can continue with the class at the same level, move onto the Pre-Employment Skills project, progress to Employment based courses (Café Project or Skills for Employment project) or onto Inclusive classes or mainstream provision.

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

Comfortable clothes and shoes.

What support is available?

There is a Learning Support Assistant in every class to give special help where needed and support the tutor in class, along with learners’ own personal support if necessary. The class frequently benefits from dance/theatre students attached to Amici Dance Theatre Company. Makaton signs and images are used where possible to help understanding. Senior Learning Support Assistants are available to support with enrolling, information, guidance and communicating with learners homes.
