What will the course cover?
This Drama course will introduce students to movement/mime/ creativity. There will be breathing and voice exercises and students will work with physical expression, communication, and mime. Students will build up their confidence and develop social skills.
Who is the course for?
People with learning and other disabilities who have an interest in drama.
What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
No previous experience is necessary.
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
• Share information in class discussions • Complete breathing exercises • Take part in Role Plays • Perform on your own, as part of a group or with the whole class • Enhance communication skills through work with physical expression and mime
How is the course organised?
• Class discussions where students are invited to participate at their own level. • Games and exercises to develop basic literacy and numeracy skills • Planned or improvised role play • Individual, small group and whole class work • Relaxation time
What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?
Students may like to use techniques learnt in the class at home.
How will my progress be assessed?
Your tutor will assess your starting point and develop your Individual Learning Plan. Throughout the course you will be assessed by your tutor and LSA against the course and your own personal goals. Evidence will be taken throughout the course including worksheets, photo’s and video’s. Learners will have the opportunity to evaluate their own work and that of the other learners.
What can I expect to go on to after this course?
Learners can continue with the class at the same level, move onto the Pre-Employment Skills project, progress to Employment based courses (Café Project or Skills for Employment project) or onto Inclusive classes or mainstream provision
Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
No other costs.
What support is available?
There is a Learning Support Assistant in every class to give special help where needed and support the tutor in class, along with learners own personal support if necessary. Specialist aids are also available such as hearing loops, roller-ball mice, large and keyboards. Makaton symbols and images are used where possible to help understanding. Senior Learning Support Assistants are available to support with enrolling, information, guidance and communicating with learners homes. Tutors who have the same learner will also work together to make sure all teaching and support is pulling the same way across all their classes.
