What will the course cover?

Learn to carry out first aid in an emergency situation, manage a casualty who is injured, or suffered serious illness until the emergency services arrive. HSE approved

Who is the course for?

"Anyone who is interested in being able to offer a first aid response in an emergency situation. Also minimum course acceptable by HSE for first aiders in smaller or low risk workplaces"

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

None required

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

"• Manage a casualty who is injured at work • Manage a casualty who suffers from a serious illness • Give appropriate first aid in an emergency situation "

How is the course organised?

"This course is one-day, minimum of 6 hours and includes: Instructor led presentation Group practice Group discussion Power point & video presentation "

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

"none "

How will my progress be assessed?

This course is subject to on-going assessment by the instructor throughout the course. There is no final assessment. The instructor observes attendees practice sessions as the training progresses to ensure the required level of understanding. All successful attendees will be awarded an HSE approved certificate

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

"Maintain validity of certificate (every 3 years) "

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

Attendees are not required to bring anything with them.

What support is available?

"Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Open Learning is available at Macbeth and WIN. Details are available from the guide and from teaching or reception staff. "
