What will the course cover?

Anyone who would like the opportunity to learn about and experience painting with oils.

Who is the course for?

Anyone who would like the opportunity to learn about painting with oils.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

Beginners are welcomeas are thos ewith some experience. All will be able to progress at their own pace.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

Basic history of oil painting and pigments Making and mixing oil paint looking at artists approach to oil painting Preparing paper for oil painting sketches Create an oil painting

How is the course organised?

Day 1 will focus on experimentation and preparing for the oil painting on the second session.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Gallery visits are recommended. It is also beneficial to look at the work of other artists in libraries, on the web etc.

How will my progress be assessed?

One to one and group feedback sessions. Your progress will be charted by both you and the tutor using your Individual Learning Plan.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

Try life drawing to develop your skills further

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

Cartridge paper and charcoal are available in class. Students should provide their own fixative, masking tape, sketch books and additional drawing and painting materials as necessary.

What support is available?

Learner Support Fund – a grant is available to help you pay for the cost of the course and other expenses incurred, if you are a resident in receipt of benefits. You may wish to get additional help offered through Study Support Sessions. Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
