What will the course cover?

In this practical course you will be introduced to the interior design process. We will look at room surveys, plans & elevations and colour theory as a first step towards redesigning a room to a specific design brief.

Who is the course for?

Anyone with an interest in interior design.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

No prior experience is necessary, but an interest in art and design is a benefit

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

Produce a mood boardProduce a mood board. Recognise the design cycle and trend prediction. Produce room surveys. Draw a room survey to scale. Draw elevations of a room, sketch a standard plan. Apply colour theory and colour psychology. Make costings. Identify sources for furnishings etc.

How is the course organised?

Individual practical work. Small group projects. Whole group activities

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Room survey. Collecting resource images of furniture and materials. Museum visits can be beneficial.

How will my progress be assessed?

Progress is assessed through discussing the work individually and in groups and recorded on Individual Learning Plans and Learning Journals

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

Higher level Interior Design courses with other providers.

What support is available?

"Learner Support Fund – a grant is available to help you pay for the cost of the course and other expenses incurred, if you are a resident in receipt of benefits. You may wish to get additional help offered through Study Support Sessions. Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities."
