Jewellery - making beaded jewellery with wire and thread    

What will the course cover?

The course is about learning and developing skills and techniques to create jewellery from a range of materials. What materials and tools to use Basic beaded jewellery construction Basic design techniques Bead and wire twisting Using nylon and supple threads Using different wire techniques Using jumping rings Using separators Knotting between beads and pearls

Who is the course for?

Anyone interested in learning the basics of beading techniques using both thread and wire to make necklaces, pendants, and earrings; including design, colour-coordinate and combining different beads.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

None -This course is recommended for beginners (or as a refresher course).

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

Design your own jewellery (colour & shape co-ordination) Manipulate wire Make earrings and pendants Attach clasps Make head pins and eye pins Tie and twist wire onto beads Understand when to use nylon and different supple threads. Use jumping ring separators Use extension chain Use and make different knots

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

You will need to purchase basic equipment and some beads – approx: initial cost £15

What support is available?

Learner Support Fund – a grant is available to help you pay for the cost of the course and other expenses incurred, if you are a resident in receipt of benefits. You may wish to get additional help offered through Study Support Sessions. Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
