What will the course cover?
A wide range of popular social dances are taught from a sound foundation in various rhythms to enable the student to lead and follow. From 12 to 12.30 pm time is given over to total beginners or those who require particular help. Please speak to the tutor if you are unsure.
Who is the course for?
Anyone with an interest in learning sequence dancing.
What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
No particular skills are required but the ability to move in time to various musical rythmns would be advantegeous.
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
Perform various dances as taught by the tutor with confidence and flair.
How is the course organised?
2 hours per week, revision and learning new dances.
What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?
None but as your confidence grows you will be encouraged to attend tea-dances and other social dance events.
How will my progress be assessed?
The tutor will assess individuals against their abilities to perform the dances learnt at whatever level. The tutor may help learners set individual targets to work on for their own benefit.
What can I expect to go on to after this course?
Continue to progress within the same class and/or join the ALSS ballroom dancing classes.
Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
Please wear suitable clothing for dancing and appropriate shoes. No trainers please!
What support is available?
Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOl programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available from the ALSS course guide and from teaching or reception staff.
