What will the course cover?
In this practical course we furthur develop 35mm camera techniques including exposure,depth of field, lenses, films and filters. Students will critically examine current photographic issues and trends.
Who is the course for?
Students who want to improve and develop their use of the camera, and increase their knowledge of traditional photography.
What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
Introduction to photography would be helpful but not essential. An SLR digital or film camera is needed.
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
Identify the range of controls on SLR cameras and explain their use in creating photographs. Describe the range of film available for SLR cameras, and select the film and/or camera settings appropriate for the task. Explain how film/digital settings affects results and select film or digital equivilent with appropriate speed for the photographic task. Illustrate a variety of themes through a series of photographs which show evidence of interpretation on the use of the camera, film and context. Assess photographs in relation to technical and creative results and suggest improvements/developments.
How is the course organised?
In the classroom - Whole class work/ group work, individual and group work on outside shoots, group visit to an exhibition and talks with images.
What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?
Practicing taking photos to help understand the techniques, project work, visiting photographic exhibitions, reading photography books to build up a workbook.
How will my progress be assessed?
Continual assessment and written feedback through your own Individual Learning Plan.
What can I expect to go on to after this course?
Build a portfolio to use for possible entry to higher level course in FE or HE.
Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
You will need your own SLR camera theer will also be processing and colour enlarging costs.
What support is available?

You may wish to get additional help offered through Study Support Sessions.
