What will the course cover?

This one day course is designed to introduce you to printmaking techniques for ceramics where you will learn how to make and decorate a plate.

Who is the course for?

For beginners or those who wish to develop their skills using printmaking decorating techniques and want to learn how to make a personalised plate.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

None, just enthusiasm for arts and crafts.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

• Painting onto a plaster bat using coloured slips. • Drawing with oxides to create tonal mono-prints. • Pressing slabs of clay into a plate mould and textures. • Using stencils, for example paper and latex to mask interesting areas of your print and layer further imagery. • Develop an awareness of historical and contemporary approaches in ceramics.

How is the course organised?

A workshop course with demos and practical work.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

None as this is a one day course.

How will my progress be assessed?

One to one and group feedback and through the use of a one day course individual learning plan.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

To develop further join a longer course in pottery.

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

Apron or ‘workshop’ clothes, stout shoes and a notebook and pen.

What support is available?

Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
