What will the course cover?

Each week you will learn simple decoupage techniques by decorating a different surface. You will explore the techniques of decoupaging onto various surfaces such as wood, metal, glass, plastic and material.

Who is the course for?

This course is designed for those who are interested in re-purposing items from home or charity shops that normally would be thrown away such as tin cans.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

No experience necessary. You can start from scratch or increase and develop your knowledge and skills.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

Repurpose and decorate a series of artefacts . Experiment with papers ,paints, mediums ,materials and textures Explore decorating various surfaces and substrates with various mediums such as sand medium to add extra dimension to your pieces . Express yourself and find your own style.

How is the course organised?

Practical sessions. Students will be invited to investigate the subject through exercises given in each lesson to explore the discipline in a number of ways. Discussion and group discussion of outcome and achievements.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Gallery and museum visits are recommended as are looking at art books in libraries and visiting websites. Drawing practise is advised.

How will my progress be assessed?

One to one verbal feedback, group discussion and evaluation, written progress and assessment will be recorded on your Individual Learning Plan and in your Learning Journal. Also discussion of each project and its relevance. At the end of the course we will evaluate each learner’s work as a whole and discuss individual development.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

Consider another course to develop other aspects of drawing and painting or crafts. You could use the work created to help compile a portfolio to help with an application to FE or HE.

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

Bring you own artefacts. Tin cans, small wooden artefacts(boxes or trays), Clear Glass jars or plates, white or cream bags for life, Old white or cream Tshirts, plain white ceramic mugs or plates. A comprehensive materials list will be supplied by Tutor

What support is available?

Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities
