What will the course cover?

This course provides the know-how and skills to tackle many of the day to day problems that occur in any home. You will be able to learn how to decorate using wallpaper and paint.

Who is the course for?

People who wish to learn the basics in DIY.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

An interest in DIY.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

• Approach DIY jobs confidently • Assess whether a task is within your knowledge and capabilities • Apply Health and Safety procedures to DIY jobs • Employing contractors with confidence • Hang wallpaper •Use of different techniques to apply paint

How is the course organised?

Weekly topics, demonstrations, talks & practical. Question and answer sessions.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Visits to DIY stores to become familiar with products required.

How will my progress be assessed?

Question and answer sessions to check understanding and through the use of your own Individual Learning Plan (ILP).

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

General home improvements or any related course within the adult education service.

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

No additional course cost. Please bring folder, paper and pen to each class. Wear shoes that cover the toes and an apron.

What support is available?

Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
