What will the course cover?

This course will give you the ability to create beautiful domestic floral arrangements. Your tutor will guide you through arranging and presenting seasonal flowers, colour and design. Each week the tutor will demonstrate a technique and you will create your own version in the class. You will be looking at traditional and modern design approaches.

Who is the course for?

The course is for anyone who would like to learn the essentials of floristry.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

No previous experience necessary for this course.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

Select your own flowers and foliage with confidence. Apply Health and Safety principles as related to cut flowers and foliage. Make attractive arrangements in both modern and traditional styles.

How is the course organised?

Tutor demonstration. Student practice. Questions and discussions.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Purchasing your own flowers and foliage. Visits to florists.

How will my progress be assessed?

There will be individual feedback from the tutor and between yourself and the tutor and recorded in your individual learning plan and learning journal.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

Other non-accredited floristry classes or accredited floristry courses. Going into business for yourself or obtaining work in a shop.

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

Small tool box to include: Floristry scissors, knife, wire, tape, containers and oasis. Advice will be given by the tutor at the first class. Flowers and Foliage. Note pad and pen.

What support is available?

Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
