This 5-week course will cover baking and finishing simple vegan/dairy free/gluten free cakes. NOTE this is not strictly a vegan baking course, we will cover a range of cakes which can be baked for a range of dietary preferences and intolerances.
This is an all levels course and will suit those who have a little or even no knowledge of baking, but are interested in learning the skills to bake for the family or to start up their own business.
No skills knowledge or experience is required however, if you do have or need some experience of baking for individuals with dietary requirements be it dairy, vegan or intolerances will ensure that you progress and further your knowledge.
Bake and finish a range of vegan, dairy free and gluten free cakes. New skills you will learn: What tools and equipment to use and how to handle and take care of them. Kitchen safety and cleanliness. Importance of correct weighing of ingredients. use a range of alternative ingredients to sweeten and act as raising agents. How to store and understand shelf life of these baked products.
There will be a demonstration of techniques, methods and skills. Learners will prepare, make, baking and finishing individual baked products.
Learners will be encouraged to practice the cake baked in class.
We provide an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to record your progress and to give you the opportunity to feedback on what you have learned.
Take further courses to improve your skills (tutor can advise).
IMPORTANT a list of ingredients to bring will be given to you when or after you enrol. The tutor will advise learners about equipment required to bring each week. You will need a notebook pen/pencil, an apron and if you have long hair, a hair net/hat or something to tie it back.
Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available in the Guide or from teaching or Reception staff.
