Who is the course for?

This course covers the practicle skills needed by a first aider in the modern workplace. The course will give you the confidence and knowledge to deal with first aid emergencies. This course is for nominated workplace first aiders, or anyone wanting a comprehensive introduction to first aid.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

None as all is given on the course.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

On successful completion of the course candidates will be able to: 1. Assess a situation, act safely, promptly and effectively to give emergency first aid 2. Perform effective CPR 3. Identify causes of unconsciousness and assess and treat an unconscious casualty 4. Assess and administer first aid promptly and effectively to a casualty who: Has minor or major bleeding Is suffering from injuries to bones, muscles or joints, including suspected spinal injuries Is suffering from a heart attack, angina, fainting, shock or choking Has a burn, scalds or poisoning Has been overcome by gas or fumes Is suffering from the effects of epilepsy, diabetes, asthma or hyperventilation Is suffering from the effects of heat or cold 5. Know how to safely approach major incidents and prioritise casualties 6. Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the importance of personal hygiene in first aid 7. Maintain the required workplace records in accordance with the HSE regulation

How is the course organised?

The course will run over 3 days, with a multiple choice exam on the final day.

Read over the text book provided

How will my progress be assessed?

After completing a final assessment successful candidates receieve a HSE (Health and Safety Executive) approved ceftificate valid for 3 years.
