What will the course cover?

“I travel continuously, and I see many cities, but there is nowhere like London.” Norman Foster Learn more about where we live and the art and architecture on your doorstep! Discover some of the best-known art and architecture in London as well as some secrets hidden away. We will travel back in time to when London was a Roman city and trace the changes through history and the art that was produced, ending in today’s contemporary art and architecture which has shaped our current cityscape.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

None, just an open and intriguing mind

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

Participants should be able to have an idea of the timeline from London through history and the people and art/ styles that have shaped the city

How is the course organised?

This is a five-week course which will work chronologically from history to the modern day.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Optional to keep a journal of thoughts and reflections and finding a work of art or place or artists in London that interests you.

How will my progress be assessed?

Each week there will be a recap on the previous week and any issues or questions will be shared either with the group or with tutor.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

You may want to do longer courses in history, cultural studies, art, writing or teaching.
