“We should be asking, what can we learn from art rather than just about it” Dr Angela Voss Art continues to fascinate and draw crowds, fetch staggering sums at auction and inspire travel from all over the world to marvel at it. But what do you see when you look at art and how does it make you feel? Art presents us with doorways and windows into the entire world, not only in terms of history, philosophy, psychology and engineering but also in terms of our perceptions and responses to it. This course will track an overview of art from around the world and from different time periods, its history and story and consider its ability to be able to communicate through images, messages and meaning that words cannot always express - and what it means for you
Anyone with an interest in art, life, meaning, the big questions as well as the small, interest in the imagination, creativity and practicality.
None, just an open and intriguing mind.
Participants should be able to have a broader understanding of art in general and be able to link it to other ideas and approaches.
This is a five-week course which will look at a different time period each week.
Optional to keep a journal of thoughts and reflections and finding a work of art that is meaningful to you.
Each week there will be a recap on the previous week and any issues or questions will be shared either with the group or with tutor.
This course can open thoughts and courses across the board from psychology to spirituality, from art and creativity to writing to history. You may also find that your imagination is developed, and creative writing courses are appealing and made easier.
There are no other costs.
Support from the tutor is available via email.
