We will explore the various features of a screenplay and ways that cinema tells stories through image and sound, drawing on some of these techniques to create cinematic writing of our own. We will also explore simple ways of generating ideas for screenwriting and screenplays, including adaptation
For everyone who loves cinema, and for those who would like to explore how to create screenwriting

This is a one-day Saturday writing programme with a specific focus on writing for cinema. You can take this writing programme alone, or in conjunction with the other three Saturday writing modules. The structured session will include practical individual writing exercises, presentations, group & pair discussion, workshopping of student writing, printed materials and screenings.
Students can develop their writing exercises following the day writing programme and follow up their own interests on the reading list.
Q&A during sessions; workshopping of writing exercises; short individual tutorials at the end of day writing programme; written feedback from the tutor post-writing programme.
You can take additional Saturday modules: ‘Creative Writing: Writing Short Stories & Fiction’ ‘Creative Writing: An Introduction – Finding Ideas’ ‘Creative Writing: Writing Autobiography, Life Stories and Creative Non-Fiction’ You can also take the general on-going creative writing programme during the week.
There is a booklist that students can use develop their interests beyond the day writing programme. You need to bring a pen and notebook.
