What will the course cover?

The workshop will present the main literary trends in 20th century Italy, starting from the beginning of the first world war. It will then concentrate on two of the great novelists of the country, with details on the historical background and style of writing.

Who is the course for?

The workshop will be mostly in English with some key words in Italian, but only for reference. It is designed for anyone who has an interest in Italian culture and wants to discover more about its literature.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

None, other than an interest and passion for Italian literature.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

Recognize literacy styles from Italy in the 20th century Recognize two great writers and their style Recognize their famous work and relevance to society Use Italian vocabulary related to literature

How is the course organised?

This is a one-day workshop, in English, with some Italian being spoken for reference

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Video links and reading sources will be provided for additional studying

Discussion and pair work, reading and q/a
