This course introduces you to the history of German cinema. We will not only explore the famous pioneers, German Expressionists, various waves both past and present and their key players - behind and in front of the camera -, style, technique and editing developments, but also analyse and discuss the impact of cinema from its early beginnings up to current releases.
This course is for everyone with an interest in film, the history of film, the cultural impact and power of cinema as well as narrative and image in general.
This is an overview course and you do not need any particular knowledge, experience or skills.
- Gain a better understanding of the history and various waves in German cinema in a wider cultural context - - Develop a new perspective on German cinema and perhaps read and interpret films with fresh insights.
The course is organised in an interactive seminar format with tutor presentations, visual illustrations, we will analyse a variety of film clips and images, Q&A and invitation for open group discussions.
No preparation or outside work is required.
There is no assessment, but you are encouraged and welcome to actively participate.
