Anyone interested in learning about the Ancient Maya and Olmec civilisations.
None but your English should be good enough to be able to follow the lectures, participate in class discussions and activities and do some background reading and research.
- demonstrate knowledge of the Ancient Maya & Olmec civilisations - identify how the Mayas & Olmecs changed and developed over time - recognise the legacies of the Ancient Maya & Olmec civilisations and appreciate their contribution to and influence on the modern world - be aware of the different types of historical evidence and how they are used - understand how a range of sources help make the ‘story’ of the Maya & Olmecs
12 two-hour long sessions with each one focusing on a particular aspect of Maya or Olmec civilisation. Towards the end of the course the tutor and the students will discuss the possibility of a visit to a museum in London in order to see first hand Maya & Olmec artifacts.
Some reading is required in order to complete independent research.
