What will the course cover?

The UK Legal System : Tribunals Specific features and professional roles Legal process at the tribunals The interpreter role and code of conduct The legal process in the Tribunal and the associated areas of law Specialized Terminology Visit to the London Employment / Immigration Tribunal: attending different ( real ) cases on the day of the visit Interpreter familiarization with the professional environment Interpreter familiarization with standard procedures when attending assignments in the tribunals Practical exercises Peer review session and Q & A closing session

Who is the course for?

Interpreting students or practicing professionals wishing to have a sound knowledge and high level of confidence when attending assignments within the legal system.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

Basic knowledge of interpreting and/or genuine interest on the legal interpreter profession

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

To understand the court hierarchy in the legal system and the role of the Tribunals

How is the course organised?

In a one-day tailored training in the premises – Employment/Immigration Tribunal, guided by the expert tutor.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Previous to the training session: 2/3 hours to read the material provided by the tutor before attending the course After the training: Developmental, for those who want to do extra work only –Not mandatory

Questionnaire made by the tutor previous to the training day The completion of the exercises during the session Constant support and guidance from you tutor during the visit Closing session and Q & A session Post-training questionnaire
