What will the course cover?

Grammar topics from the first couple of years will be revised and expanded upon. New gramnmar to be covered this year: direct and indirect speech / the passive voice/ the conditional and the subjunctive. We will work on all the skills - speaking, listening, reading and writing- so those of you who wish to sit an exam at the end of the year can do so with confidence.

Who is the course for?

Anyone who has done at least 2 years of German or the equivalent (120 hours of class instruction).

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

You should already be able to communicate reasonably well on everyday topics.You should be able to talk about both past events and future plans with some fluency.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

Be at or above GCSE level.

How is the course organised?

11 weekly meetings of 2 hours each . Each session is a mixture of short grammar presentations, reading/listeing and above all speaking activities

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

At least 1 hour a week or 20 minutes a day. If you wish to sit a GCSE or other exam you'll be expected to do a lot more homework (past papers in particular) at home.

How will my progress be assessed?

By class tests, your contribution in class and tutor's assessment.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

Stage 2 next term

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

None. If you wish to take a GCSE there will be an additional examination fee to be paid in late December / eraly January.
