What will the course cover?

The students will be introduced to the Greek language and will gain a very basic understanding and command focusing on how to cope with the simplest daily situations speaking Greek.

Who is the course for?

Complete beginners. Also ideal for holiday makers to Greece who want to understand more the local culture and language!

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

No prior experience in Greek is required. The course is aiming at introducing Greek to foreign students.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

The students will gain a basic understanding and command of the Greek language and by the end of it they are expected to be able to cope with the simplest daily situations. Following the 5 weeks lessons, students will be able to introduce themselves, where they are from, greet and meet people in Greek, order in a bar or taverna, going shopping, booking a hotel etc.

How is the course organised?

The course is organised in 5 sessions and will involve reading, listening, writing and speaking activities. The majority of the activities are based on discussion in the classroom, in pairs or small groups and role playing practicing basic dialogues.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Use of the language outside the classroom is strongly advised together with reading materials such as newspapers, menus and tourist information in Greek.

How will my progress be assessed?

Progress will be assessed within the classroom based on the speaking and reading activities together with classrooms revisions.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

Students who want to learn more and gain a better understanding and use of the language are welcome to join the 10 week evening course commencing in September 2020.

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

Students will need to bring a notebook and pen for keeping notes. Reading and exercises materials will be provided at the first lesson.
