What will the course cover?

Topics include: holidays, leisure pursuits, special occasions; the local environment; getting around; using public transport and other services; talk about the past & future Grammatical structures are explained and practised.

Who is the course for?

For those who would like to build on their basic knowledge of Polish, who have studied up to Lower-Intermediate Stage 1 or have equivalent knowledge. Please come and try the class before enrolling (provided there is space) to check your level, if you aren't sure

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

Basic knowledge of spoken (and written) Polish - to be fairly confident in talking about home/domestic life and daily routine. Express likes and dislikes. Book accommodation/make arrangements. Go shopping for food. See Course Information Sheets for first year Polish for full details.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

Talk and exchange information about where you live; Discuss problems in the environment; Get around a town or farther afield, using public transport; Say what you like to do in your free time; Discuss how we celebrate special events and occasions; Talk about what you did in the past and about future events.

How is the course organised?

Conversation through discussion and role-play. Listening and reading exercises, grammar and vocabulary taught through topics.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

20 minutes homework for further study/revision daily, reviewing & practising the previous lesson; sentences and words to learn by heart; homework set by the tutor. Try & listen to a tape, get material from internet, watch a video - anything to extend your Polish! Find a Polish speaker to practise with, if you can.

How will my progress be assessed?

"Every lesson you are given different tasks so that progress can be assessed. Record of your work will be kept in your Individual Learning Plan to help record the steps taken towards achieving your goals. "

What support is available?

"Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages.
