What will the course cover?

The course will cover how to read and understand notation, all musical symbols and definitions of words used to describe styles of music and more!

Who is the course for?

Anyone who has an interest in learning how to understand and read music.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

No previous knowledge required this is a beginners course.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

Follow a music score and understand what the symbols used in writing music represent.

How is the course organised?

We will build on knowledge week by week to cover and go over information until all is clear.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Revise between sessions to support your learning.

How will my progress be assessed?

You will be tested to ensure you are clear about what you have learned.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

The knowledge gained will be invaluable if you are starting to learn an instrument, for singing or your own personal interest.

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

Just bring a notepad, pencil and eraser.

What support is available?

Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
