The course covers the following dancing disciplines: ¿ Ceili dance (Irish and Scottish) ¿ Sequence dancing
We design the course for those who are aged 50+. It is open to all genders, and ethnic groups. The programme is suitable for people of a mixed ability range. We ask that those who participate acknowledge the nature of the course, are in good health and in a physical condition to partake in the activity.
We ask that the participants have good communication skills and display a willingness to engage in the activity. Prior knowledge of dancing disciplines is beneficial but not a necessity.
By the end of the course, the participants should be able to ¿ Perform a variety of steps and movements. ¿ Understand the style associated with Ceili dance. ¿ Display the ability to dance in both small and large groups. ¿ Recognize progressive Ceili dance routines. ¿ Feel a sense of self-satisfaction and achievement through dance.
The course is progressive, starting with basic steps and movements and progressing to spins and swings. The teacher demonstrates routines and encourages the participants to practice the movements. We plan each lesson, so by the end of the course the class members participate in a range of Ceili dances
No extra curriculum is set, however the participants are encouraged to read dance notes, watch Ceili dance videos and practice at their own discretion.
The Teacher will spend time with each participant encouraging development and providing feedback. There is no formal assessment, grading, or performance
Previous participants have gone on to enjoy other types of dance such as set dancing and Irish step dance. Presuming high demand, advanced Ceili dance classes will be available.
There are no additional costs, particpants are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Plently of Water is recommened. The Teacher supplies the Music and sound system.
The Teacher can provide dance sheets and share music CD’s.
