What will the course cover?

General map reading skills, learning about the countryside, health & safety.

Who is the course for?

A walk covering 4-5 miles over rougher terrain. Some stiles and hills may be encountered. This level is suitable for able walkers or a as a progression from the beginners level.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

You should be a reasonable walker who can cope with rough ground/stiles and hills. expect to walk at least 4 miles.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

Have improved map reading skills, improved levels of fitness.

How is the course organised?

The first week of the autumn term will be classroom based with a local walk. Thereafter, meet at the MAcbeth Centre for 10am where you wil be driven to the walk site. Expect to return by 3pm

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

none required

How will my progress be assessed?

No formal assessment is required.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

Move to the advanced ramble and/or join other walking groups

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

There is a £20.00 registration fee for borough residents and a £30.00 fee for out-of-borough. All will pay an additional £3.50 per ramble for transport costs each time you come. Please dress appropriately and wear walking boots/shoes. Walking poles are also required. Please provide a packed lunch and bring plenty of water.
