What will the course cover?

This course is designed to give you a series of simple and gentle balance training, with chair based strengthening and stretching exercises to gain and maintain a strong postural stability. You will also learn of the muscles that create good alignment. Optional you may also learn how to maneuver yourself safely on and off the floor.

Who is the course for?

Anyone who has suffered from poor balance, poor posture, back pain and/or feels they are at risk of any of these problems in the future

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

There are no pre-requirements for this course.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

•Demonstrate 4 key exercises for maintaining good balance. •Demonstrate 4 key exercises for maintaining good posture. •Demonstrate 5 key stretches for maintaining good flexibility. •Explain the importance of warming up prior to exercising •Benefits of postural stability

How is the course organised?

For 1 hour once a week to include: •10 minutes of warming up exercises •20 minutes of balance training exercises •20 minutes of strengthening exercises •10 minutes of stretching and relaxation

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Your general strength, balance and flexibility will improve through home practice. Your tutor may advise individuals about specific exercises

How will my progress be assessed?

Each learner is required to self assess alongside the tutor assessment, on the record of achievement

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

The course should inspire you to take on a regular exercise and join our follow on class after this one on the same day.

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

Wear loose clothing suitable for gentle exercise and suitable footwear.

What support is available?

Help with literacy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Learners with medical conditions or disabilities, should make these known to the tutor before the beginning of the class.
