Ed studied Composition at the Royal College of Music in London, with Joseph Horovitz, Kenneth Hesketh and Howard Davidson, and now writes music for film and television.
He has been nominated for the European film music award, at the Soundtrack Cologne Festival, and written music for numerous documentaries, animations, dramas and comedies. Recent broadcasts include TV documentaries and film dramas. Ed’s concert compositions have been performed at London’s National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery and Victoria and Albert museum. Current concert music commissions include a new chamber opera, a piece for the ensemble Unit Six, and a workshop devised piece for Drake Music performed at the Roundhouse in Camden.
After beginning his musical career as a pianist and double bass player, Ed first worked as a composer for ‘People at Play’ theatre company, with whom he is still composer in residence. Writing, arranging and conducting scores for a variety of stage plays has allowed Ed to work on integrating the performance element of music within the theatre, and allow his music to play a part in the storytelling process, and not just be an emotional comment upon it.
As a pianist Ed performs regularly with his own ensembles or as a soloist/accompanist in a variety of concerts and events.
