Fees, concessions and financial support

The Skills Funding Agency (SFA) subsidises our courses, even when a full fee is payable.

There are three fees for most courses:

• Standard fee for residents of the UK or other EU countries.

• Concessionary fee for:
– non-accredited courses

The Skills Funding Agency will only fund tuition fees for those on benefits (see below for details). However, H&F adult learning and skills service will still continue to help you financially if you have been a UK or EU resident for the past three years and are claiming any of the following:

  • Universal Credit
  • JSA
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Benefit (not single occupancy)
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Income Support
  • Pension Guaranteed Credit
  • Unwaged dependant in receipt of any of the abov
  • Asylum seeker claiming asylum support assistance.
  • some accredited/qualification courses

For UK or EU residents in receipt of Active Benefits (JSA or ESA WRAG and Universal Credit mandated to work or training) there are no fees on some accredited courses. Look out for the (F) – it means the course is free.
If you are unemployed and are in receipt of any other type of benefit (see ‘Help with fees’ opposite for full details) and believe the course will help you find employment then the course may also be free for you.

Full Fee – if you have not been resident in the UK or EU for the previous three years a higher fee will be charged. Please ask as this varies depending on the course.

If only one fee is shown for the course, there are no concessions. Most fees include basic equipment but you may need to buy additional materials.

Level 3 courses – we are unable to offer concessions for level 3 courses, please ask at interview about sources of funding.

If you are under 19 Our courses leading to qualifications are designed for adults and we receive no funding for under 19s. If you are under 19 and interested in doing a course please contact us for further information.

Exam fees and equipment For most qualification courses the exam fee and basic equipment are included in the published fee. Please ask at interview.

Invoicing your employer
We can invoice your employer for course fees. You must bring written proof that your employer agrees to pay and an additional fee of £25 is charged for administration.

A full or partial refund of your course fee will only be made when:

  1. We close, merge or reschedule your course and you cannot get to the alternative.
  2. There is a medical reason supported by a certificate or doctor’s letter.

An administrative charge of £10 will be made for this refund. We do not provide refunds where individual sessions have to be cancelled, but will make every effort to offer an alternative session. For refunds within the above categories:

  • If the admin manager approves your refund it will be processed and a cheque sent to you.
  • If you paid by debit /credit card, we are only able to give you a refund directly onto the card you originally used.
  • Please note where a refund is approved, we are able to do this immediately for card payments but for fees paid by cash or cheque, it will be processed within one week (at the beginning of terms this process may take longer).
